Here is the link for my rig

I built my computer a few years ago and it has served me well with no issues playing modern games (I'm not that picky about graphics). I have been satisfied playing on 1280x1024 resolution since my main focus is performance not graphics. This has allowed me to play newer titles using older components at satisfying FPS. Recently it has started to struggle with newer games. It handles SW battlefront pretty well, but I squeak by on low graphics for R6 Siege and playing the BF1 open beta was a lagfest most of the time.

Point is I think I should upgrade the cpu or gpu in order to handle newer games, specifically BF1, but I have been out of the loop for the last couple years and I don't know if anything that is compatible with my motherboard (LGA1155) or my Power Supply (Corsair 500W) would provide enough of a boost to handle BF1, even on lower graphics I primarily care about FPS. Or even if you can buy old enough parts anywhere.

Thanks for you help.

Edit: I would like to keep my budget from $100-200 for a part. I don't think I have enough saved to buy both a GPU and CPU but I am interested in what you would suggest.

I had a friend that said the same thing as you have been regarding resolution. He had a 720p monitor. He picked up a cheap 1080p, from Microcenter, and was wowed by how much better everything looked. You do not have to spend a lot of money, on the monitor either. 1080p, and IPS, this a pretty good deal.

CPU wise, here are your compatible options. You would have to go to Ebay, most likely, for them...

Yes, the 1050Ti would be a great improvement, as would AMD's RX 470. If you plan on getting a widescreen monitor (especially if you're going to move up to 1080p resolutions), you may want to consider getting the RX 480 (very good) or GTX 1060 (very, very good).

You're probably going to need a better CPU, as well. BF1 is a monster when it comes to bringing CPUs to their knees, so even getting an i5, if not an i7, would be a really good idea. Luckily, you have your pick of the crop of both Sandy Bridge & Ivy Bridge chips (http://www.ecs.com.tw/website2008/Product/Product_Detail.aspx?DetailID=1373&MenuID=103&LanID=0). I would recommend getting the i5-3550 or i7-3770, possibly even the "K" versions if you want to try to OC as well.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am pretty pleased with the 1024 resolution though, can't justify spending a chunk of money for a few pixels or a couple extra inches of screen.

Yeah I feel like a CPU is a mandatory upgrade for BF1, and I remember those two being popular. The problem is no one really seems to sell them anymore. Any suggestions for how or where to get one?

Honestly, a 1080p monitor is like $120 bucks, I don't consider that a "chunk of money". GTX 960 or the 1050ti would be fine. And honestly, it sounds like you need a console, not a computer. You can buy a ps4 for like $250. and play BF4 and it looks fairly good. a lot better than what youre getting now.

They seem to be online (http://pcpartpicker.com/products/cpu/#m=21&f=29&sort=a7&s=12,13), but they can also be expensive (~$183-255 USD for an i5, $372-482 USD for an i7).
