What is a good monitor for me? Right now all of my current specs are listed in my signature, including my monitor. It's been a great one for the last 5 years, but now that I have a RTX 2070 I need to get more out of my build. Not really interested in 4K and not even sure how well 4K would run with my PC anyway. But I definitely need to upgrade to 144Hz 1440p. I am in the USA, and am looking for a monitor that is 24 inches or 27 inches max, no more than $400-500. No gaudy designs or curved monitors...

I suppose that depends on what you want to use it for. If you are after high FPS, then the RTX2070 can be a little light at 1440p so getting a 144hz monitor won't mean 144FPS in everything (not even close really) Plenty of games out now that will being it under 60FPS when maxed out. If you are playing lighter titles and have checked a few benchmarks and are satisfied with the potential performance then your requirements are somewhat broad.

Dell is a popular budget 1440p choice: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/CwgPxr/dell-s2417dg-238-165hz-monitor-s2417dg

This one looks relatively new. I don't know much about it: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod...-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

An older popular choice: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/7H...yu-238-2560x1440-165hz-monitor-xb241yu-bmiprz

A tiny bit out of budget for one of the better freesync alternatives: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/c298TW/asus-monitor-mg279q

Honestly I am happy with gaming right now, I just thought a 2070 was meant for more than 60Hz 1080p. Keep in mind I upgraded from an AMD FX-4300 and GTX 1050Ti SC. My previous computer was a potato. The 1050Ti was my budget upgrade a couple years ago from a 750Ti. That thing only had 8GB DDR3 too.

Games I'm playing at pretty much max/ultra now:

Resident Evil 2 Remake
Black Ops 4
Battlefield V
Anthem (tomorrow - but played demo)
Rainbow Six Siege
Far Cry 5

Going to DL Apex Legends tonight. This is pretty much my rotation for awhile.

It is, but not 1440p at 144hz. 1440p at 60hz or 1080p high refresh are feasible. Nothing wrong with over-buying with a monitor. People tend to keep them a lot longer than GPUs. (I have a GTX 1080 and a 1440p @ 144hz monitor. Plenty of older games I get decent frame rates, but games like BFV, more like 80FPS, though that was the Beta and a while ago)

If we take FarCry 5 and BF1 (as a stand in for BF5) you can see it will keep it above 60 FPS at all times, but not creep up to 100+ FPS very often if ever. On the higher settings anyway. You can certainly tweak it to your tastes, but benches are typically run to show card comparisons.

For scale:

1080p @ 60hz 124,416,000 pixels per second
1440p @ 60hz 221,184,000 pixels per second
1080p @ 144hz 298,598,400 pixels per second
3440x1440 @ 75hz 371,520,000 pixels per second
3440x1440 @ 100hz 495,360,000 pixels per second
4K @ 60hz 497,664,000 pixels per second
1440p @ 144hz 530,841,600 pixels per second
4K @ 120hz 995,328,000 pixels per second

Additionally, memory requirements go up as resolution increases.
