I finally am forced to upgrade to windows 10. if I drag windows 7 installed programs user data folder to a new location and then upgrade to windows 10 can simply put the folders back and the programs still work? Say all the chrome, opera and edge folders so I do not loose history, open tabs, bookmarks and extensions? Some of my extensions are no longer available in chrome store to install. I can't remember if this works, because I have gone back to seven from 10. Also wondered if I can still keep programs activated I purchased if I could somehow upgrade to windows 10 and still the 7 key also?

thats not going to end well. Dragging installed folders to another location on any install isn't going to end well, let alone after an update.

Just leave them where they are as you should be okay.

backup folders if you worried about losing them.

I am simply talking about moving folders to another drive and the upgrading to 10 and moving folders back to location in 10 where they would be like in windows 7. The App Data User's folder is what I would like moved from 7 and back it up and move back when I upgrade to 10. Backing up folder in programs when update happens even with browsers to prevent losing app data and settings.

You can certainly copy (make a replica) of your browser's profile and move it to another PC.........but I'm not sure if that carries over history and ALL settings. I know it works for bookmarks and that's about all I need to transfer.

How you do that depends on what browser you use.

I do habitually back up my entire roaming/appdata folder and its subfolders, but only later fish out isolated portions...including browser profile.

I don't see why windows 10 won't recognize windows 7 app data folder and settings and just adapt. I know it can be done. I am going to Back it up the folder and see if it works. If I make a CRX file for backing up extensions Windows 10 should recognize it and restore back to my browsers.
