Im looking to upgrade my current rig, currently I have 8GB at 1600mhz

But I was looking at possibly upgrading up to 32GB or maybe 16GB with decent speeds. 2000+ maybe?

Current build:

CPU: i7-4790k default speed
MOBO: Asus Z97-A
GPU: MSI 1060 Gaming X 6GB
Any recommendation really appreciated.

Is there a reason why you might be able to take advantage of 32gb?

I can think of two options.

1. Buy a 2 x 16gb kit for 32gb.
2, Buy a 2 x 8gb kit with specs that match your current 2 x 4gb kit.
If you can get both kits to play nice, you will have 24gb. If not, you will have 16gb and sell the old kit or keep it as a spare.

As to speeds, more ram will usually trump faster ram if you have a discrete graphics card.

Firstly, go with 16 rather than 32 gigs. Especially with only a 4790K, 32 is overkill. As for speed, I'd just save money and go with 2133MHz or something along those lines. You don't have Ryzen, so it won't really matter too much.
