So I've been reading and have come to the conclusion that 8GB RAM days are gone and 16GB RAM is the norm now for gamers.

My current specs are
i5 3570k
1060 6gb
8gb ram

My current ram is this one right here
https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Memory/DDR3/Dual+Channel+1600MHz/8GB+Corsair+Vengeance+LP+Arctic+White+%282x4GB%29+DDR3+PC3-12800C9+1600MHz+Dual+Channel+Kit+-+CML8GX3M2A1600C9W+?productId=45857
"8GB Corsair Vengeance White LP (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz 1.35v Dual Channel Kit - CML8GX3M2A1600C9W"

What are my options for upgrading from 8gb ram to 16gb? I'm guessing the best option is to get 1x8gb or 2x4gb rams of stick of 1600mhz and from Corsair to match my current RAM

Solution
I think it depends on what you play and what you expect. That said, you want options. I assume your computer has 4 slots, 2 of which are used. I would only go with 2 new sticks so that you can take advantage of dual channel memory (more performance). You want to timings of the new memory to be similar to what you currently have.

Option 1. 2 sticks of 2 GB ... this would take you to 12 GB.
Option 2. 2 sticks of 4 GB ... which would take you to 16 GB.

I assume you will someday upgrade other parts of your system. DDR3 is pretty much dead, so what you buy now will only be used until you upgrade. If you plan to upgrade in 1.5 years or less, I would lean toward option 1 ... otherwise option 2.
