Upgrading from 939 to 775!

Hey all,

Recently got my first real job and will be upgrading my PC before the end of the summer. I will be reusing my Gigabyte Aurora case, an HD4830, and my HTOMEGA sound card. I will buy a 22"+ monitor as well, so probably playing at 1920x1080. I am also in the market for a new full server case because I cannot remove the LED fan in the front of my current case. Are you upgrading now or at the end of the summer? If you aren't upgrading now wait until you are actually ready to, because prices will have changed by then

I remember when I got my first job and I thought WOW look at all the money I will have to simply blow.
Funny how it just never turns out that way.
I'd say you need to cut back a tad there charger. $700 for a couple of SSD drives is insane. You simply don't need them, and I think they are going to be out of your budget anyway. Unless you plan on spending all summer sitting at home with no money doing absolutely nothing.........

Spending all this money and your going S775? i7 all the way if you have this kind of cash to burn. Should be easily doable now that your not spending all that cash on SSDs. I also wouldn't worry about RAID1 or AID0. Buy a nice 300GB raptor for your OS drive, and a large drive for storage. Keep your disks handy, and burn anything important to DVD. IF you lose a drive, you can wait a few days for a new drive to arrive right?

That builds a mess. No need for a 1000w psu with two 4830's crossfired. The cpu is over kill for those vid cards also. Do yourself a favor...ebay that 4830 along with that case, then build yourself an i7 rig. You can build one with gtx 260's in SLI...one for now...for under $1,250 and that includes os and monitor.

This build includes monitor, o/s, after market heatsink, thermal compound, etc... Add another gtx 260 later on down the road if you feel the need.

Hard to argue with any of that. Pretty much an ideal build.

I did a LOT of spreadsheet work last night, as well as looking at specific FPS at various resolutions in a wide mix of games.

My conclusion is that 4870 1GB and GTX 260 core 216 are by far the best buys and there's no reason to get more than two of either of those. GTX 285 is just a waste of cash, 4890 or GTX 275 would be the next choices.
