Upgrading from a 1060 3GB to 6GB for close to nothing, worth doing?

Hi guys,

As per the title, I have a chance to upgrade my GPU from an MSI Geforce GTX1060 Gaming X 3GB for close to nothing, to a 6GB of my choice. My games (Battlefield, CS:GO and Assetto Corsa) run quite fine with the current MSI card, so is it worth it?

If you think it is, what card should I get? Another MSI card or maybe a cheaper 1060 6GB like Zotac AMP?

If it was a 60Hz monitor I'd say no. But if you can hit 144, it would be. You'd get ~10% more frames than your 3GB card, more if you were having a memory issue. If you are getting 50FPS now, you'd be looking at 55FPS at least. I don't know what you are getting now so hard to say if worth it. If you've got the $50 I'd probably do it.

$140 is a slightly harder call. More money, but much better card for 144Hz gaming. I'd try to get it as it's a much bigger jump than 10%.

If it's not going to cost anything significant, I would do it then. There can be a few cases where the fps minimums are significantly better with the 6GB edition.

The 6GB also has additional Cuda cores, it's not just a vram upgrade. You'll benefit from more longevity with the 6GB card and it'll perform better at 1440p.

I'm sorry, left out the specs

i5-7500
Asus B250i strix
2x8GB RAM
Silverstone 450W SFX PSU
And currently the MSI GTX1060 Gaming X 3GB

That said, the case is Fractal Design Node 202, I am having trouble sometimes with GPU temp spiking to mid to high 70s. Have heard that blower style GPU works better for this type of case?

It'll be pretty close to zero if I swap it with Zotac 1060 6GB AMP edition. More for others like MSI 1060 Gaming X 6GB. Not all brand of cards are readily available in Indonesia/Singapore.

It doesn't really matter. If he would bottleneck with a 1060 6GB he was probably already bottlenecking with a 1060 3GB, and he'd still end up with better performance when he upgrades his CPU (or better resale value when he sells the 1060 down the road). And if by PCU you mean PSU, if it could handle a 1060 3GB it can handle a 1060 6GB.

temperatures in the 70s aren't really anything to worry about.

OK, let's just say I have to fork out $50 to upgrade to a 6GB card, which I don't mind doing. But will I see any difference when I look at what it puts out on the monitor? Monitor is a 24" LG 24GM77, a 144hz monitor.

Or, it's an extra $140 to a 1070 but again, if I am not gonna see any difference (maybe limited by other components/hardware), then I see no point? What do you guys think?
