Hello, as per title I'm looking to finally upgrade from my 1060 to either one of those cards, as of right now I'm using a Ryzen 7 5800x and for the time being I'll still be playing on 1080p. I have plans to eventually upgrade to a 5800x3d and switch to 1440p, I don't plan on getting the current and next gens of processors (of both teams). I could get the 7900xt for roughly $950 while the 6950xt come at around $705. I know the latter has higher power draw and thermals compared to the newer one, and compared to lower VRAM and overall performances I believe it's significantly less future proof.
Do you guys think the $245 I'd spend more would be worth it in the long run? I can't imagine electrical bills being that much different by getting one or the other, and given that I'd be undervolting either way thermals should (hopefully) not be an issue.

Tested in 12 games at different resolutions. If it's worth the extra money that's your choice.

It's really unfortunate that the price isn't closer where you are. Here in the US the price difference is ~$125-150 which makes it a lot easier choice. I'd rather go with the 7900 XT personally, but that price difference for you is awfully large and AFAIK there are no exclusive RDNA 3 technologies (unsure what AMD's frame generation tech will be limited to should it come out). I'd suggest looking through any benchmarks you can and decide if it's worth it to you. Seems like you're looking at a 15-20% difference in performance between the two.

5800X is good enough for 1440p with either of those GPUs.
At 1440pUltra difference between it and 5800X3D lowers.
At 4K,there probably isn't any difference(or it's very negligible)between those 2 CPUs and its quite good for 4K.
Maybe 5800X3D has significantly better lows,I Don't know.

Especially when FSR3 comes out, though I am uncertain if FSR3 will work on RX6000 series.

Thanks to everyone who answered, for the time being I got the 7900xt just because it's (albeit only one year) newer and should have a little more juice for the future (and I prefer to have less power draw in the long run). I'll try it out for some days and see, I might even just decide that the extra graphics quality and frames are not worth the insane pricing we have nowadays and just keep my still very well functioning 1060.
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

What is the make and model of your PSU and it's age? If you want to stick to 1440p gaming, I'd look at a lower tier card, instead.
PSU I have a 850W beQuiet! Dark Power 12 which is I think a little more than 2 years old, I should be able to run it for a long time (given that the power draw of the components won't get even higher in the next few years). That said once I upgrade my gpu (wheter I keep the 7900xt or downgrade) I don't really plan in upgrading any further for as long as I possibly can.

Yeah I watched some of those games comparisons video but I don't really find any value in them, mostly because there is little to no informations on what system they are testing it on but also because I don't really play any of the benchmark games.
I was looking for a more in depth comparison but in the end I just took different in depth video and compared from there.

Yeah it sucks, the used market is even worse, on ebay prices of used cards are even HIGHER than buying them brand new. The 7900xtx was only €180 so I could have admittedly went with that one too, giving up on the lower thrmals and power draw. The only reason I prefer the 7900xt over the 6950xt is just having an extra year of future proofing everything, since I don't really plan in upgrading any further as long as I phisically can.

Yeah I'm honestly very fine the CPU, I'll probably just upgrade if I can find it dirty cheap or if mine suddenly dies. For the time being I'll just be playing on 1080p still, so I will probably see little to no difference until I get a better monitor, but I don't plan on going 4K anytime soon, I'll see how I like the 7900xt does and decide if I want to keep it or not, worst case I'll just send it back and lose 10 bucks on shipping but nothing more.

Well if you have 4K120Hz TV with VRR and HDMI2.1 would be very, very nice indeed.

I'm definitely not getting a TV or anything bigger than 32" I've been eyeing the Corsair Xenon 27" I'll see if the local store will put it on a discount for Black Friday. If not I'll honestly just get an IPS 27" 1440p screen and call it a day.

12900K+2x16 DDR5 6000CL36 is that benchmark

Why not?
Big TV is unwise for traditional PC gaming distances, but if you have for example 2.5meters(8-8.5 feet)or so,it's awesome experience.
