Question Upgrading from a 1700x to Zen 3 on a B450

Sep 15, 2012
So I'm looking to change my formfactor from a standard ATX board to a mini ITX one to be able to build a more compact PC to fit my needs. I know the B450 chipset Is supposed to be compatible out of the box with 1st gen ryzen, so great, I can just swap my CPU to the new board. But I'm also planning upgrading once the new ryzen 4th gen CPUs launch, and I'm aware the B450 chipset will have support for this new generation through a BIOS update that will be a one-way path that will rule older 1st gen ryzen processors like my 1700x
So my question is... Once I get the new 4th gen Ryzen CPU, will I be able to update the BIOS (when the update is available to download) using my 1700x and boot it back up with the newer 4th gen processor?
