Upgrading from a gtx 960 to a gtx 1070, uninstall old drivers install new?

Im upgrading from a gtx 960 to a 1070 and wondering if i need to use a programme such as DDU to completely uninstall all 960 drivers before physically installing the 1070? or should i just go to controll panel and uninstall from there? I looked on nvidias driver details and they use the same drivers as each other, so do i even need to uninstall them at all?

Correct, just to make sure you not running in any problems you want to remove the old driver first. DDU will be perfect.

I'm not 100% sure if that is really necessary, but it can't hurt for sure. At least you will be on the safe side.

No, you don't need to use DDU. Both GPU's are in the same driver revision. Just to a 'clean' install of the latest driver and you're good to go.

Most instructional videos on how to use DDU on an GPU upgrade is rather vague,
How i see it would go like this (Please correct me if im wrong)
1. Download geforce experiance installer and DDU installer
2. Open DDU in safe mode and select option that clears drivers and shutsdown the pc, it says in brackets for GPU upgrades.
3. Once pc is shutdown physically install the 1070 and start up pc
4. PC should start wiith horrific resolution due to there being no drivers, i would then re-install geforce experiance and perform a clean install of drivers from that
5. Finally reboot once more to make sure of proper install

Is that right or is there a better way?

You can do it like that, or the simple way (given they are the same driver for both GPU's)

Download the driver here: https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/137270/en-us

Turn off PC, and install new GPU. Reboot. Desktop should stay the same, no 'horrific' resolution.

Run installer. Select custom install, and do 'clean install' (tickbox).

Reboot, and you're good to go.

Edit: Geforce experience is a turkey and has a way of destroying a game experience. Just deselect at install or uninstall it. Set game settings manually. You'll be happy you did.

You don't need to use Geforce Experience. This is in my opinion the most unnecessary piece of software that ever came from the big green company.
