So, as the title says, I'm ready to upgrade my G4560 to an I5. Going to be sticking with the LGA 1151 socket, and am currently planning only to upgrade the CPU for the time being. My current system is as follows:
Pentium G4560
GTX 1060 6GB
8GB DDR4 2133 (going to be upgrading to 16-32GB after I upgrade the CPU)
MSI B250 PC MATE (Budget board, doesn't support OC)
1000 Watt Power Supply
So, with all of that stated, there are some obvious imbalances in my system that I was aware of when I upgraded from AM3+, but I just needed to get off my FX 6300 as it was starting to have some issues, and it almost costed less to go to the Pentium and a new Mobo+RAM than buy an 8350 or something like that. Newegg sales are great!
My main question at this point is whether to upgrade to an I5 7500, or go for a 6600K/7600k. I'm not afraid of overclocking, and frankly I enjoy tinkering with my hardware. However, if I don't get any real world performance boosts by overclocking (this machine is used for gaming/productivity), I don't necessarily need the freedom to overclock, and I need to save pennies wherever I can.
I've done some basic research, and it seems like in most newer games, the 7500 and 1060 seem to compliment eachother nicely. But, if you guys think I'd benefit from an overclockable chip (true benefits. An overall performance improvement in gaming) then I don't mind saving up for the K series. Opinions? Thoughts?
