First, CPU stats:

CPU: AMD Phenom II x6 1090T Black Edition
GPU: Asus Nvidia GeForce GTX 660
Ram: 16GB (4x4GB) (2 Corsair Vengence and 2 PNY Optima)
MoBo: An Asus board HERE
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212
OS: Windows 8.1

(If there is anything else you might need to help let me know)

My question is one I have been trying to find an answer to for a while. I have an AMD Phenom ii x6 1090T and have been debating if it is worth it to upgrade. I am looking at the AMD FX 8350, only because Intel CPUs cost more as well as I would have to buy a new motherboard.

My main question is whether or not upgrading is worth it. Some things that I do are basic school work (office, power point), web search, and games.

When it comes to games I play Final Fantasy XIV, World of Warcraft, League of Legends, Skyrim, Minecraft, and others along these lines.

I don't do anything too crazy (video editing, photo editing, or other intense stuff). Currently I do not have the CPU overclocked, only because I have no idea how to properly do it. I am not noticing any issues in speed issue either.

I am just looking for opinions about what would be the best option. If I switched to the FX I would be settling for what I can afford now. I would like to completely switch to an Intel, but because of price it's not viable for me at the moment.

Should I wait until I can properly switch to an Intel or settle for the FX, if the performance is worth it?

I have also read forums post talking about bottlenecking the GPU because the CPU isn't fast enough. From my stats, is this something that I am doing? Or is this not a huge issue?

Thanks for any and all help and advice!

Solution
Skip the FX lineup. The AM3/AM3+ socket is dead.
Firstly, your processor will not bottleneck that card in any game, my Phenom II 965 can run a 760 with 0% bottleneck.
Second, your processor is on par if not better than the FX-6xxx series. Its essentially the same as upgrading from a 6300 to an 8320, not a large increase.
I would, at minimum, take a 4690k and a quality Z97 board.

Since you already have a nice motherbaord, and good heatsink, overclock that phenom, it should perform better than the 8350 on games (at stock speeds of course). If you want a real improvement then you will need to go with the intel side, but i'd wait a bit for this. With the GPU side, there should not be any bottleneck, you can get a better GPU, anything below the gtx 770 or r9 280x should be fine.

Based upon the types of games you play, and the types of things you do outside of games, I would first ask why you would *ever* want to go to Intel.
Secondly, I would say that upgrading your CPU would be folly.

I'm playing games like Shadow of Mordor on all ultra settings with 4x anti-aliasing through CCC; Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, all Ultra settings, and Ryse: Son of Rome, all Ultra settings with mostly 60fps. (Sometimes I get drops into the thirties for short periods on very dense sections.)

Unless you want the most killer of all computers for the sole sake of bragging rights, don't bother upgrading your CPU because you are not likely to get a GPU that is going to be waiting around for your CPU.

Here's the secret: Get a Solid State Drive. Your entire computer will be snappier. It's one of the most obviously evident upgrades you can get, and you will never regret it.
