Upgrading from an AMD RX 460 and I'm looking to get this EVGA GeForce 1060 SC but I have a few questions

This is the card in particular. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487261&cm_re=1060-_-14-487-261-_-Product

I know it's well overpriced but I'm getting a bit desperate I suppose. I game on a 1080p monitor and I'm not looking to overclock so a single fan should work for me without much overheating problems?

I was also reading reviews and the one from here, TomsHardware, recommended adding a couple thermal pads underneath the coil to reduce heat. Is this common? And does it make a big difference and is recommended?

And my last question. This is the 6gb model. There is a 3gb model for $280. Should I go for the 3gb model or the 6gb? In the past I heard that more memory is mostly for if you play at a higher resolution but seeing how I'm only playing on 1920x1080 should I just go the 3gb?

At first I was wanting to get an AMD RX 580 but I just can't find one for a good price (obviously) and even setting up alerts I can't get one fast enough before they're sold out. My monitor does support AMD FreeSync but I'm not sure if it's even worth it. I would rather just get a decent GPU.

Sorry for all the questions and thank you in advance for all the responses.

Solution
The huge single fan is fine for a non-OC'er. I have that card now, and had the 3GB version earlier. The 6GB is indeed faster than the 3GB version in many games. My 1060 has never over-heated, even when stressed at 100% usage for long periods of time. If your display is 1080p/60Hz, the card will be great.

I'm on a 1080p/144hz monitor but I think it should still be fine?

Ah crap I waited too long now that card is up over $500 🙁

You may not get 140+ fps in games with the 1060, but still a good card. Sorry to hear you missed the boat on the card. These card prices suck. Somewhere along the way from the folks putting the cards together to the final purchaser... there is someone making a huge fortune. I have a GTX 1070 that I paid $345 for. It is now being sold at over $1100.

Btw, which card were you looking to get? There are still 6GB GTX 1060's at Newegg for as low as $360 (today).

I ended up buying the GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1060 G1. It had pretty good reviews. I'm still upset that I had to pay $400 but at least I'll have a working GPU now 😀

That's a decent card. I had the GTX 1050 Ti version of it. Nice backplate, LED ltg.
