When I originally bought my GTX 690 three years ago, it was the best card out, yet within a relatively short period of time it was limited by its 2Gigs of usable Vram.

I've been looking into the GTX970, which seems to be the best buy right now at around $350.

It seems to have better specs all around, except for the CUDA cores, which honestly, I don't know how they change performance.

Here's the card I'm looking at: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487076

Here's the card I have: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130781

I am looking for conformation regarding whether or not it's really worth upgrading. Should I wait and save for an even better card, or do people think this will last a while. My goal isn't playing in 4k at the moment, just a solid 1080p at 60 fps on Ultra settings. Sadly, it seems like most to the games coming out are poorly optimized, even for that.

if u plan to upgrade to a GTX970 avoid EVGA the Heatsink has an issue if they didnt fix it yet that is

MSI is the best out there Noise wise also Overclocks really well and is only 1-2C hotter than the gigabyte wind force while staying 2DB quieter

IMO Twin Frozer is the best cooler second by the Wind force

and if u are getting sttutring in games etc maybe try dropping the anti aliasing or anything that eats the ram coz the 2gb is definitely showing it is age

if u replace ur gtx 690 with a 970 u will see a huge decrease in performance. u will have slightly better performance if u put 2x gtx970s in sli over a gtx 690 card. do some more research before you waste your $

If you are referring to speed, I would say that GTX 690 is on par with a Pagani Zonda and the 970 is a Corvette . The Bentley GT is fast but the Corvette zr1/zo6 would kill it. But then again, the 2gb VRAM kinda sucks......
