Hi all!

I've been using my reliable GTX 770 for 3 years now, but after saving some cash, It's time to buy a new video card.

I only game at 1080p @60hz, w/ games like Minecraft, Skyrim, Left 4 Dead 2. I also watch anime with MPC-HC + madvr and some other tweaks

I've narrowed down my choices to Nvidia's GTX 1060 and GTX 1070 (I'm planning to buy either from EVGA only)

With my current usage would it be okay to spend a bit more for the 1070 since from what I hear it's performance for dollar is great or would the 1060 suffice? **would getting the 6 GB 1060 if ever, also be worth it?

Thanks All!

get 1070 8 gb
more ram...
At 1080p 60hz the 1060 will do. A 1070 will give you very high fps, which is of dubious value to you.

Honestly, why do you want to upgrade? Nowhere in your post do you mention low performance or dissatisfaction with your current card. Skyrim is the most demanding thing you mention and I can't imagine it's performing badly at 1080p for you. What are your other specs, like CPU?

The 1070 sounds a like overkill given what you're describing now, but if you're planning on it lasting for the next 3 years like your 770 then sure go for it. If you go with the 1060, the 3 GB is a cut down model while the 6 GB is fully enabled. That plus the extra 3 GB of RAM can make a huge difference in VRAM heavy games with high-res texture packs, and any sort of AA. You may also want to consider the RX 480 and 580 in that segment, especially if you can find a 4 GB model on a good sale.

My Skyrim is kind of heavily modded, ENB + Graphic mods + Some body mods, I feel my CPU is still sufficient for this time (4770k)
Will 1060 be enough given the mods I have ?

Thanks!!

Yes! I plan to use the video card for another 2-3 years :), Amd...I sadly bat for the green team. The 1070 does look like a future proof option for 1080p, 8gb vram is like double the amount of vram I have atm.

get 1070 8 gb
more ram for the heavy texture game ( since u mentioned modded skyrim, i play it myself, and crash frequently coz my VRAM is only 1 gb 🙁 )
more future proof
more fps (though it won't benefit u if it surpasses ur monitor refresh rate)
but beware dude, Gsync monitor cost a fortune 😀
