I have a gtx 950 and want to upgrade my gpu to play new games on 1080p screen on high settings.
I can either buy 1050 ti for 100$ and wait till the release of the new generation or buy gtx 1060 for 240$ and wait till next year to upgrade again.
So which one should I choose, and would the 1050 ti actually be an upgrade from 950

Of course the REST of your system matters too especially the CPU so if its relatively weak the performance will vary.

Either way my advice is to go with the GTX1060 6GB (not 3GB) as that should last you a lot longer.

*GTX1050Ti not shown but it would be roughly near the GTX770 so it's not much of an upgrade from the GTX950 whereas the GTX1060 6GB would be roughly 2x to 3x depending on the game.

ROTR for some reason (update must be the 2GB of VRAM?) and the GTX960 is under 20FPS vs the approx 70FPS on the GTX1060 6GB... of course if you knew what you're doing you'd drop the settings even lower to avoid maxing the VRAM (I assume the issue but may not be) but I just...

a) system memory
b) Video memory
c) GPU (processor) performance
d) CPU performance
e) software etc.

Update:
I looked up some video comparisons of GTX1050Ti vs GTX950 (2GB I assume) and discovered for example HITMAN (recent) got almost 2x the performance and some others got much higher than the approx 20% improvement I expected.

I believe MOST of that is down to settings that need more than the 2GB framebuffer. When you max out the framebuffer you usually get massive stuttering intermixed with smoother gameplay.

Anyway, not really a fair comparison since as per my above post a smart gamer with a GTX950 would not crank the settings up to the point that happened.
