Hi guys,

It's been a while since I built my first PC, it was very budget oriented.

Here's my specs

i3 7100
GTX 1050ti
Dual Channel 2x8GB RAM (Corsair)
Samsung 850 Evo SSD

I am now trying to upgrade my CPU or GPU. But especially the CPU, I've been over youtube and this forum and seeing Ryzen getting much praise than the Intel competitors.

I thought why not give AMD family a try, as many says it's very promising and future proof.

Also regarding the motherboard upgrade, if I don't choose the Ryzen family, I thought of getting an i5 9400f or i5 9600k. So I need to upgrade the motherboard anyways, if I choose either of the new gen processors.

I'd like to know your opinion. Not just the CPU part, but the upgradation of GPU as well if necessary.

AMD system. You didn't specify model/frequency of your ram. For best performance Ryzen requires fast ram - 3000/3200mhz at least.
PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X 3.8 GHz 6-Core Processor ($238.90 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: ASRock B450 Pro4 ATX AM4 Motherboard ($79.89 @ OutletPC)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory ($70.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $389.78
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Intel system. You can reuse your old DDR4 RAM with it.

Hi thanks for your reply.

I've a 2400 Mhz Corsair vengeance 2x8 GB Ram. Am not looking for 3600x but just 3600.

As I already have a GTX 1050 ti, would that GPU bottleneck the CPU (i5 9400f or ryzen 5 3600)?

Also is it better to choose 9400f over 9600k?

3600x has better cpu cooler. With 3600 you'll need cooler too. Considering price difference, 3600X is smarter choice.

No bottlenecks. 9400f better in terms of price/performance.

So 3600 doesn't come with a stock cooler?

Unforunately, the prices are way too higher in my country due to import duty and taxes.

I enquire about these in my local shops.

242.15 USD - Ryzen 5 3600

292.25 USD - i5 9600k
23.66 usd - Cooler master
178.83 USD - Gigabyte z390 UD

Do you think those are a good option?

3600 has wraith stealth cooler. 3600X has wraith spire cooler.
Wraith spire is significantly better. 3600 on stock cooler may overheat and start throttling performance.

i5-9600k for $292 is a bad choice. For that price you can get i7-8700 instead.
And for motherboard you generally want to spend less than $120 (preferably less than $100) and it needs to have heat-sinks on vrms.
