Upgrading from i5 2500k to i5 7600k

Hello,

I think it's time to upgrade my i5. Motherboard is pretty old and stubborn at overclocking. Most I can squeeze is 4ghz & even then it's flakey.

Do you think I can use my current arctic cooler, the socket fits & I've read some people have used on 6600k & i7s

My general experience of stock coolers is that they are ok, not great.

The more powerful next gen i5/i7 are launching next month. So hold on to the thought for now and get the new gen in a month or two for a more significant performance increase. And the unlocked(K) chips do not come with stock cooler. So you have to either use the existing cooler or get a new cooler anyway depending on the compatibility.

Thanks - in no big rush so can wait until month. Hopefully price will come down.


I was actually looking at cpu bundle deal on amazon. Comes with a decent asus strix motherboard

Well, you can either go for performance or saving. The best performance doesnt always come cheap. And those deals usually roll out whenever there is something new arriving in the pipeline. Your call mate.
