Hi All!

I've been looking into upgrading my computer's processor for reason's that may/may not coincide with the release of MandB2 Bannerlord. My motherboard is an HP 82F1 (I think (that's what is says in sys info under "baseboard")) and I'm trying to upgrade to an i5-9600k from an i5-7400. Everything that I've looked up points to me NOT being able to make this upgrade due to the fact that the new processor would draw a third more power than the old, so I decided to turn to the forums with a last glimmer of hope/confirmation. Can I make this upgrade? Is it worth it? If either is no, are there any equivalent (or close to) products that I could use instead?

Thanks in advance for your help!

9th gen intel CPUs like the 9600k will only work on 300 chipset motherboards(H310, B360, B365, Z370, Z390).

Your Hp 82F1 is a H170 chipset motherboard... the I5 9600K is not compatible.
You'll need to change the motherboard with one with the chipsets listed above for the 9600K to work.

I don't think you will be able to do that.
First, its an overclocking CPU and the motherboard you have does not support overclocking.
you would need a new mobo. the CPU you want to get requires a different chipset.
so no that would not be a good upgrade because it would not work.

Looks like you have an OEM rig, so your upgrade options are limited at best. That CPU will not be compatible, due to incorrect chipset. You are basically going to have to start over, with a new rig, maybe reusing storage, and ram.
You are wrong he can put a 7700 on this motherboard upgrade ram new gpu etc

The 7700's current retail pricing approximates the total of $370(there are some used for $270, as well), as asked for new at current Amazon pricing... (that would allow a B450/R5-3600, and 16 GB instead....perhaps with $50 change leftover
