Is your system struggling with some particular type of workload?I was wondering what CPU to upgrade to next, any help appreciated.
just general CPU intensive games (mainly arma 3) and also do some rendering etc. Nothing too important just nice to have (and wont lie, me and my friends always play the who has the best game 😉)Is your system struggling with some particular type of workload?
Why are you considering cpu upgrade?
Thanks a bunch, just have to do some research like you said as im really not confident at al in all the BIOS and tampering bits.As you have an Asus mainboard, have you considered enabling MCE mode in the BIOS, which will allow all 6 cores to run at max turbo under load (4.3 GHz)? (You could also, if temps are well under control, tweak up the max turbo in 100 MHz increments with 1-6 cores with the Extreme Tuning Utility; many folks have 8600K's running at up to 4800-5000 MHz, so you might have some headroom yet. Naturally, the higher clock speeds at some point will require a bump in core voltage, so, research what is required and proceed carefully, and, at your own risk)

And .. ?
Arma3 doesn't run well on your pc? or rendering too slow? or what?
Arma 3 is really unoptimised and does tend to stutter especially in intense encounters. Just rendering takes a while and faster is always better. Not looking for discussion on what I do, just need a bit of a increase (perhaps spending an extra 150 or so on top of the price of the i5 8600k)And .. ?

Next step obviously is i7-8700/8700K.just need a bit of a increase (perhaps spending an extra 150 or so on top of the price of the i5 8600k)
Unless your software uses lots of parallel threads they also perform about the same as the 8600k...Either 8700k/9700k (whichever is cheaper, both perform about the same)
