Trying to figure out which i7 I would need to buy to upgrade the on in this laptop http://www.amazon.com/Acer-E5-571-588M-Notebook-Computer-i5-4210U/dp/B00M8RO9WS/ref=sr_1_9?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1416269394&sr=1-9&keywords=acer+laptop . I just recently ordered a 16 gig ram kit for it, and received it, so I'm already at the max for the amount of ram supported. I already own the laptop, and it is a 2014 model so no I'm not going to just buy an i7 laptop. My budget for the processor is about $350, it is about at half the price of an i7 laptop, but I bought this model for compatibility reasons with the linux destros that I run, along with the vms. Please stay on topic about the processor only, I run a lot of vms, I'm not a gamer, I need a lot more processor cores and memory than most gamers.

Generally speaking, the only components you can upgrade on a laptop are the RAM and hard drives. Processor upgrades are much more rare and I haven't found anything online that states your model's processor can be upgraded.

Hello,

Your i5 is a low-power variant (15W TDP), so even if you could change it (if it's not soldered onto the motherboard), your cooling system will not be able to evacuate the additional heat (be aware that a REAL i7 has 4 cores/8 threads, and the lowest-power i7s, the i7-4702 or i7-4712, has 37W TDP).
