Hello, currently have a i5 4690k with the evga 1079 ftw edition. I'm wanting to upgrade to a 1151 socket motherboard and upgrade too an i7. I mainly play games, I typically have multiple tabs up at the same time. I think I'd like to spend 450 on both motherboard and cpu. I just need a couple pointers. Thanks!

If I were you I would buy a used 4790k. It will drop into your current system and is still a very good CPU for your use case. It will be a lot cheaper than $450. I would hold onto the CPU for a year or so and then look at a Intel or AMD 10nm/7nm CPU as they should have a decent performance increase. But right now, the performance increase is very small from your 4th gen CPU.

Additionally, if you do you for a 8th/9th gen Intel CPU, you will need DDR4 RAM so you should consider that in your budget.

Well newer parts require DDR4 so you'll need to consider that into your cost and the i7-9700K alone is almost your entire budget. For $450 I'd go with this as long as you currently own a decent aftermarket cooler.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel - Core i5-9600K 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor ($249.99 @ Walmart)
Motherboard: ASRock - Z390 Pro4 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($118.88 @ OutletPC)
Memory: G.Skill - Aegis 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-2666 Memory ($84.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $453.86
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

So I went ahead and got the i7 9700k, along with the z390 asus tuf series. I'm very happy!
