Hi,

Currently repurposing an old desktop as a vm host on my network. The desktop I’m using has an i3 3220 - id like to upgrade but I am on a budget.

Asking here because I’m worried about comparability, as I know although it uses the same socket as some newer cpus yet isn’t compatible 🙃.

I found this i7 3770S second hand for £59.99 that I believe would be one of the best options.

Any opinions would be appreciated.

Current Spec:
CPU: i3 3220
Motherboard: Acer IPIMB-AR REV: 1.02A
Ram: 24gb DDR3 (can’t remember actual model but nothing fancy)

Solution
I found a couple of forum threads that might suggest that an i7-3770 is a workable upfgrade.

However, it may require a BIOS update first if one exists.
