Hi. I'm on a budget trying to upgrade from my i7 4770 to something newer as the board doesn't really work with my new case.
Any recommendations. I'm only 16 so nothing majorly expensive

Solution
I was kinda hoping someone else would chime in on a budget build, as im not very good at it but we'll give it a try.

AMD Ryzen 3 3100, its slightly better then the 4770 you have but opens the door to way better upgrades on CPU's
MSI B450 Tomahawk Max, can use the R3 3100 but will also accept the new 5000 Series once stock becomes available
G.skill Aegis 16GB 3000Mhz CL16 middle ground speed and enough to keep any game happy.

£286.94 so slightly above budget but you might be able to find in store sales, even ebay for a secondhand cpu if you can find one cheap.
Sadly no really, the 4770 and 4790 are the high end cpus for that socket. Any upgrade would mean a new CPU, Motherboard, & Ram. If you give a budget and your region that you live there are some really good people on here that can do miracles with budget builds.

The i7 4770, and 4790 refresh were the last CPUs for socket 1150. Intel then moved to socket 1151 for the 6000 and 7000 series cpus, to confuse everyone even more they made a socket 1151 (V2) that uses the 8000 and 9000 series cpus but you could not interchange the 6-7 and 8-9 series cpus between sockets. They have since moved on to socket 1200 with the 10,000 series cpus.

AMD on the other hand is on socket AM4 and is only limited by the Motherboard Manufacture's bios as to what CPUs you can use.

Choosing the B450 chipset with amd will allow you to run 2000, 3000, and once the bios is released the 5000 series cpus from AMD. So although the Ryzen 3 3100 is a small upgrade to the i7 4770 it gets your foot in the door to some amazing CPUs from AMD without having to swap out motherboards for a new socket.
