Looking to upgrade my Radeon 5870 from 5ish years ago. After scouring benchmarks and hundreds of posts on different websites I think the gtx 970 is the best choice. The only thing that worries me abut it is the 4gb (or 3.5 gb from what I read) of vram. While most consider the 970 a better card, I see some recommending the r9 390 due to the large amount of vram. I am looking to play new games from this year and some I have missed out on due to my old GPU (Fallout 4 and the Witcher 3 are two that pop into mind). Also, I use a 1080p resolution and do not have the want or money to upgrade that in the foreseeable future. Any input appreciated as I am quite indecisive with this stuff.

at 1080p its a tossup, however for those games specifically the 390 should run better ( you will need to lower tessellation on fallout 4 )

be aware that a 390 needs a beefy power supply, 650w or better ideally
