[SOLVED] Upgrading from os x 10.6.8 on a mid 2011 model iMac

So, basically I've heard some support has stopped for os x 10.6.8 snow leopard. It's come to my attention as the os is now out of date for league of legends. Support has stopped. Has apple stopped supporting 10.6.8 altogether. If so I was wondering, price is of no concern. Should I upgrade to a mavericks os yosemite or 10.8 mountain lion?

Yosemite should be a free upgrade (and if support is a concern, being the current Mac OS release, it is fully supported)

Yosemite has received alot of bad reviews though tbh 35 one star ratings on the app store as opposed to 12 5 star

Well it appears Mavericks is no longer available in the App Store (except for those who have already downloaded it) though Mountain Lion might be. It's a choice between the current (but less stable) release or the not fully supported older ML.

I find this a really aggressively bad move on the part of Apple. They don't sell OS X as a retail product, but control distribution themselves, so should at least make the just-replaced version of the OS still available. Like many, I have tried Yosemite and find it an upgrade that I don't wish to perform. It's also true that they obsolete both their software and their hardware pretty quickly. The claim is always made that Apple hardware is of good quality; some of it (but not all) is indeed well made, but what's the point of it lasting for years if Apple withdraws software support so quickly?
