Hey, I am thinking about upgrading my pc from pentium g630 to core i5 6400/6500. There is no external GPU and I am not going to buy one soon. I already have 4GB DDR3 ram 1600Hz (1.35V i think) and a 1 TB Seagate HDD. I don't want to spend any money in buying anything other than the CPU and a motherboard since I'm on a tight budget. As i have ddr3 ram (which i think is DDR3L) i was thinking about buying a ddr3 supported MB. The one I found is gigabyte b150m hd3

so the upgraded pc will be -

I5 6400/6500
Gigabyte b150m hd3
4gb ddr3 ram
1 tb hdd
400W non-brand psu (i could buy a new psu with higher wattage but it has to be non brand)

will the system work just fine? I haven't found much info about either the cpu or the mobo. So i'm not sure if the upgrade is actually possible. Plz help. Thanks

@USAFRet

because a non-brand Psu would cost me less than 1000tk (~$12) but any decent psu would require at least 3500tk (~$45). But i'm really on a tight budget

we understand that ur in a low budget..
firstly non brand ones offer low wattage than they say..
secondly it could damage ur components and u might have to buy a new ones..
there no difference between 6400 and 6500..
i would suggest that u go for i5 4590 or 4450 something as theres no huge improvement in skylark that way u can get a good psu as well..

@rolli59

the country I live in does not have any 3rd gen. I5 processors in its market. The only 3rd gen cpu i found are some core i3 and one i7. Buying the i7 will almost cost the same as upgrading to i5 6500.

When you go to the doctor, and he says "Dude, you need a pacemaker"
'OK, Doc...but I'm on a budget. Just give me the cheapest one'

Of COURSE you would not say that.
This is what your PC is saying to you: "Please, Imz2, don't cheap out on my PSU. The next one may kill me."

Good quality PSU first. Then look to changing all that other stuff.

@rolli59@USAFRet

It's 7500tk. My budget was 24K. At max I could go as high as 27K. The cpu and mb would cost me 24~25K.

What if I upgrade the pc first, then buy the psu later (after 2-3 months). Is it going to be too risky?

Which won't happen, until it dies and kills other parts. Or maybe your house.

The current pacemaker is already marginal. And you want to put MORE stuff on it?
PSU first.

Hmm. I see. I'll have to wait a few more days if i want to get what I want

but if I buy a 400W psu then when/if I want add a discrete gpu, I'll have to buy a more powerful psu which will cost more. What'd be a more futureproof psu for my pc if i want to add a gpu?

Completely unknown, until you know what GPU you might change to in 6 months.
