Hi

I am looking at upgrading my GPU from my current RX 580 8GB and i'm not sure what the best next gpu is to get. I was looking at The 2060 Super or the RX 5700. All i need it to do is run games at 1080p 144hz and when im able to buy a 1440p monitor run games on that. I mostly play competitive FPS games and games like battlefield 5.

Current setup:

i5 9600k
16GB 300mhz RAM
MSI z390-A motherboard

Thanks in advance for the help.

Hi there,

Now obviously this is all opinionated, but hopefully I can give some insight. I personally would take some time to do some research and figure out what price range you'll be looking at, and how long you plan on keeping the next GPU that you buy. If you plan on going with a 1440p monitor at 144Hz+, I would strongly recommend something like a RTX 2060 SUPER or even a 2070 SUPER.

For now however, I think it may be a good idea to overclock your RX 580. You'd be able to learn a lot about GPU overclocking as well as boosting your GPU by (if you're lucky) 15%-20%. This means that if you're running games at 144FPS, you'd be looking at about 165Hz after the overclock. You could use the extra overhead on games that need an FPS boost, or running games at higher details and still getting your desired FPS.

Hope this helps! :)

If you want to stay team red the RX 5700 XT is a good choice. You could also get a RTX 2060S, Both are fine. My personal opinion is that I want the most FPS I can squeeze out of every dollar I spend. So I went with the RX 5700 XT because it is the faster card. But if you have the budget and you want an easier time of getting that sweet 144fps target go get a 2070S.
