Upgrading from Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro

I have a question...
If I was to upgrade from Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro would it re-image my SSD and Hard Drive when performing the upgrade, or would it have no affect.

Also if I was to just activate a key does the re-imaging happen or would it just be as simple as putting in the product key and I'm set to go (not removing anything off of my storage devices).

Only asking because I have just fully upgraded my PC hardware the other day and I kept the old SSD and Hard Drive from my old PC and just plugged it into the new system. But now I have the activation error and watermark on the bottom right of my screen saying "Activate Windows". I have tried the troubleshooting method but it doesn't allow me to activate my licence on this build and I think I am resorted to just getting a new key (licence).

If anyone could answer my questions it would be much appreciated.

You need to access your microsoft account and move the installation, no need to buy a new key (unless your old key was less that legitimate). Also just plugging in the OS from an old installation onto a new build is a really poor idea and will lead to issues. Better to reinstall.

To save me from having to reinstall all the other files on my SSD that has my windows on it aswell, would getting a new SSD and installing the fresh windows on that and setting that to be the main boot be a better option. Or is it just worth reinstalling everything again on the SSD I have now again along with the fresh install of windows?

Separate your 'files' into 'data' and 'programs'. Data doesn't need to be installed and so it can be accessed by any installation of windows. Programs however need to be installed, windows needs to know about them, so you can't 'leave' programs on another disk and expect a new installation of windows to work with them.

I guess I may aswell just do a fresh install then. Thanks for the help :)
