I’m thinking about purchasing Windows 10 from my local computer store and upgrading from Windows 7.

Question; does installing Windows 10 allow you to migrate all files and settings from Windows 7 the same way I did when I upgraded from Vista to 7? Thanks.

1. You can probably Upgrade from a valid Win 7 to Win 10 for free.
Yes, it still works.

2. Always have a backup, just in case it fails.

To answer your question yes, a Windows 10 upgrade will migrate your files and applications. MS also made a big deal you can roll back Windows 10 to Windows 7, if you have a problem. The windows 10 upgrader/installer will also create a file c:\windows.old that will contain all your personal files. I upgraded and had no issues at all; well I learned I needed to reboot windows 10 after the upgrade, before all my personal files and programs showed up. However, there is no guarantee you will have the same outcome, make sure you back up everything you want to keep, or you could lose everything. .

I upgraded a Vista laptop to Windows 7 & when I decided to get Windows 10 I did a clean install dual-booted with the existing Windows 7 & the new Windows 10 digitally licensed itself for free.
