Upgrading GPU for 1440p

Upgrading to a 1440p main display later this year (60Hz) and wondering what GPU to get. Would the 1080Ti be overkill? I have a 4K TV which I may hook the PC up to sometimes too.

a tv usually will not give you the best experience in terms of refresh rate and latency

A 1070 does good in 1440p. A 1080 is a little more FPS and more future proof. I wouldn't consider a 1080ti for 1440p as its just overkill. Unless you need the FPS its always better to get something like the 1070 then when it no longer gets the FPS get whatever is out at the time at the 1070 level. I say that because a 1080ti is about 2x the price of a 1070 and in 3 years the latest version of the 1070 should be much faster than the 1080 ti. Me, I would get a 1070, possibly a 1080 or wait a bit to see what AMD brings to the table April-June.

i'm getting nice frame rates on a 970, a 1070 is ideal for 1440p, 1080ti is more for 4k.

I should have also said I own a 1070 and use it for 1440p. I'm really happy with it and right now don't want anything more.

gtx 1070 is fine for 60 fps max or close to max settings 60fps...


also room for graphically modding games as well

1080 ti is going to be awesome for 1440p 144hz

a 1070 is great for 1440p 60 hz


IF your setup is good enough to keep up with either card

1080 ti wont be overkill if you plan to play games at 4k on the TV.
