Hi, I currently have a i5 3340 CPU along with a Nvidia Geforce GTX 650 1GB.
I'm looking to upgrade my GPU a little but I'm not sure on what to upgrade to inorder to be the best impovement for the cost. I was thinking about a GTX 680 or going much further and getting a GTX 770. Any Advice?

Also would my current processor have problems if I got a 770?

Edit: It doesn't have to be between these two cards. they were just the only two I have looked at so far, and i'm open to suggestions :)

Thanks, I have a 500W PSU, I know i'll need to upgrade that to at least a 750W right?

Depends on the make/model of the PSU, bit generally, yes.

No. For a GTX 770, 500W is very close to the limit, but if you don't overclock neither the CPU nor the GPU, you will be fine. If you want to upgrade, I recommend you this: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-power-supply-p1650snlb9
Very high quality, plenty of room for upgrades and overclocks

As Francisco has said, it will be close.

The R9-280x is a a 350W card under load, the GTX 770 is 230W at peak.

If you feel uncomfortable with your power supply, go with the 770. I run one on a 650W power supply no problem, I have built a 550W mini ITX case with it as well.

Any chance you confused "TOTAL SYSTEM" power consumption with the video card load. Many sites, like this one http://www.anandtech.com/show/7400/the-radeon-r9-280x-review-feat-asus-xfx/20 show total power at the WALL, not the power draw from the video card.

Note: power measured at the wall include the wattage the PSU throws as heat, so 400W at the wall on an 80% efficient PSU is only 320W to the PC and 80W wasted by the PSU.

+1.

500W is about as small as you can go for a GTX 770. It should work though if the PSU is a good one. And if the PSU is not a good one it should be replaced with a good one regardless of the not-good PSU's claimed capability. A place like hardwaresecrets does a great job of testing PSUs. http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/page/power
