Upgrading GPU. Need advice please.

Hi guys. I need an advice on GPU upgrade. This is mu current spec:

PSU: OCZ 700W Game X Stream
Mobo: MSI K9A2 CF-F AM2 AMD 790X ATX AMD
GPU: HD4870
RAM: 800-4GB kit HyperX

Would upgrading the GPU to 7870 work for my system?

Yes, it will work. The PCIe slots on your motherboard are PCIe 2.0 which is 100% compatible with the PCIe 3.0 Radeon HD 7870 (at PCIe 2.0 speed of course).
