Hi all...i am planning to upgrade my gpu...currently i m using AMD r7 240 1gb Gddr5...my two options are Nvidia Gtx 750 ti and Amd Hd 7850...btw i am a casual gamer and and want games to be played at high or semi ultra or even med..My games are TS2015,GTA 5,Battlefield 3,4..and some Photoshop and flstudio...

PLEASE GIVE ME SUGGESTIONS ALSO THINKING FUTURE WISE...

MY SPECS..
GIGABYTE 78LMT-S2
AMD ATHLON II 270
EVM DDR3 4 GB PC RAM
SEAGATE BARRACUDA 500GB HDD
400W 3RD PARTY SMPS
XFX AMD RADEON R7 240 1GB GDDR5...

And lastly will my cpu Bottleneck after upgrading

Solution
Hi!

1) I don't have a clue about your PSU, i guess there's nothing good to say about it. 400-450W if it's working fine - it should do the job.
2) GTX 950 is very close to 960, is cheaper, requires less power and has lower TDP - requires 1 x 6 pin connector. At least 350 W PSU is recommended .

Being honest - I am so lost in reviewing your system. To my understanding - this mobo/socket is waste of money to build anything further on.

3) So i double checked you CPU and to avoid bottleneck, you need to upgrade to at least AMD FX-6300 - nothing more, nothing less. Thats the only available AMD processor for your mobo/socket to manage the card.

4) I don't know if your micro mobo is fine with all the heat in that small compact manner. This...
I think you might be able to run Nvidia GTX950 smoothly, it shouldn't bottleneck.
It's the most efficient card considering power requirements and performance.
Considering your build your "future wise" expectations shouldn't be raised very high.
Stick to the 1080p resolution, should be able to pass the 60 fps mark, so the 144Hz monitor is available for consideration.
I would maybe get an extra 4gs of ram.
Not sure what was your experience with the radeon, drivers etc. Nvidia has less problems from what i've hear.
Upgrading from R7 240 to example R7 370(R7 260x or smth) is not worth it and the R9 would probably require a higher W Power Supply.
I think Gtx 750ti is not worth it's money anymore. I would personally go with the MSI Gtx950 or even GTX960 as it kicks R7 370 ass by miles and it's the tops your system should be able to properly handle.

Thanks for looking into my issue and for speedy reply...gtx 950 costs a little bit higher than 750ti so being restricted by my budget i am came across those 2 which i can afford...and yes i want to add more sticks but my motherboard only has 2 slots..but i have new issue cropping up like whenever i play graphics intensive games my Pc freezes and makes buzzing noise..i tries everything i could but in vain...is my cpu Bottlenecking or my radeon r7 has heating issues or is the 3rd party smps fluctuating voltage ...sorry for going off topic but that is also the reason i m upgrading my gpu..

P.S- came to know that nvidia has physx and has a better cooling than the latter...

Hey

I think you should start with some maintenance:

This is most likely an overheating or power supply issue:

1) Buy a can of compressed air and clean the cooling parts from dust etc.
2) if the power supply is out of warranty, open it and give it a nice clean from dust, make sure the cooler is working properly
3) get a soft rubber and clean the GPU cartridge from any possible dirt, clean the socket with compressed air.

If this doesn't solve your issue, try getting a power supply for testing or you can give your pc to a technician, he will do all the tests and give u an answer.

I think you should try and solve all these issues first, understand your problem and only then think of upgrading your system. Also, it's worth saving a couple more bucks for GTX950.

Hi Again,
I tried things that you have mentioned above, tried different smps (3rd party)but the problem remains..everything looks fine and clean..let me make it more simple.During daytime when the the weather is hot my pc freezes frequently but when i try the same in the evening when it is cooler my pc runs just fine barring one or two freezing,my old mini atx cabinet doesn't has too much cooling options sometimes i have to open it run it just like that for sake of running it ..sometimes it makes me furious..i cant even save my works.
And yes i think i will wait out until this problem is sorted and will surely go for GTX950..

I would suspect that you have a PSU heating problem. same as i do - especially during summer! Yoru PSU is losing stability in high temperatures and if you're gaming at that moment, your GPU is not receiving a constant current etc. various power/current cuts puffs your pc down.... also, this may even happen after a "cold start". cleaning my PSU/keeping the case open/ not that hot anymore where i live - seems to be working "fine" now - will have to buy a new one.

Few examples of a proper PSU:

And here you have a solution 😀

LOL..so u too had the same problem,i think i will be upgrading my psu too, checked those sites above are antec good as corsair or coolermaster.?and will it fit in my Old Mini atx Cabinet and lastly Is HD 7850 really that dated, because GTX950 is a HUGE card and i doubt it won't fit in my Old Mini Atxcabinet...

aw... i don't have any experience with anything but the full ATX mobos and MID/FULL atx cases.

Go here:
https://pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/

find all your components in the system builder, make changes you have to make and the website will respond with compatibility comments.

However, if the case is really small, you should consider additional cooling etc - or a new larger case with 3 integrated coolers 😉

I think first i will try to find the solution for my heating and freezing issue and after that will upgrade to Gtx...btw thanks for your advice and suggestions..although the thread is still not solved..i will let you know...

Hey,
Today i downgraded my gpu to my old Radeon hd 5450..and the heating and freezing issues are gone.but it lagged a lot while playing above games that i have mentioned..maybe the culprit was my R7 240..but i am still not sure...will my 450 w smps suffice the gtx950/960 ...i need your help again...and should i also consider upgrading to Fx 8xxx series..cause newer games and Application require multi threading..if i am right

My solution apart from the notes above: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/4Nv8t6

This should be able to run games on very high settings 30fps very demanding to ~60fps Battlefield 4

Let me know what you decide!

Solution
Thanks a lot for your time and patience....after closing this thread i understood more about Pc's from you..so yes you r right its time overhaul my system...as of now my pc is running fine and thanks for looking into my issue...

Yes, so i understand, that you want to optimize your PC you have at the moment, coz it's still capable of doing things, right?
The issue with your GPU is weird, but i would suspect your PSU is not stable on high system load. Radeon R7 240/260 / GT 730/gtx 750Ti is pretty much the best your CPU / along with ram etc / something around medium level gaming details can handle now. Getting a better card and raising gaming details will bottleneck CPU or will require more ram etc. Going for more will require more system changes and building on an old amd chip doesn't seem smart.

If you buy a new pc, this will be left standing picking the dust. My advise would be to sell it, with your stable card, for someone who is not looking for a gaming pc. you should get around 150$-200$ and invest in to a new system.

To sum up. you could get a 2nd hand replacement PSU, maybe a cheap GT 730 and it would be fine for a while. Just don't invest much in it.. 15-20$ for PSU 30$ for a card.

Buying a new cheapest skylake/DDR4 system, sweet-spot for gaming, etc.: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/QKMnD3

Hey you are absolutely right...Yes even med level gaming will do for me..i think i wont upgrade my GPU anytime soon...i have list below,Please Look into it...
