Hello I want to upgrade my warrior GTX 970 and keep the rest of the build the same for a few more months.

I have been lurking around on amazon and they are selling the MSI RX 6650 XT Mech OC for 350€ which seems to be perfect for 1080p gaming.

But then as I research more and being more future-proof I found the MSI Radeon RX 6700 XT Mech for 440€ and comparing to nvidia which is what I always had, in many games it still beats the 6700 XT and the fact that DLSS could be handy for me because of my old setup bottlenecking, I found the ZOTAC RTX 3060 Ti Twin Edge LHR for 465€.

I also found a PowerColor Fighter RX 6700 XT slightly cheaper at 425€, I'm not really sure which one to buy of the two but I noticed that the MSI needs 2 8pin and the Powercolor 1 8 pin and 1 6 pin connectors.
They both require a 650w and consume 230w.
Does anyone know why one needs less pins than the other ?

All of this gives the question if it is still worth paying 90-100€ more for the RX 6700 XT or the 3060 TI over the 6650 XT?

The setup is a 4770k oc 4.4ghz, 16gb ddr3, psu seasonic m12ii evo 620w.

MSI RX 6650 XT Mech OC 350€
PowerColor Fighter RX 6700 XT 425€
MSI Radeon RX 6700 XT Mech 440€
ZOTAC RTX 3060 Ti Twin Edge LHR 465€

Well, the 3060 TI would give more of a boost compared to the 6700xt - both these compared to 6650xt

Powercolor are using the standard pin layout for the card, MSI have just added extra pins for maybe rgb or something

Powercolor doing same with 7900xt model, only 2 x 8 pin as opposed to 3 by most makers.

I’ve got an msi mech 6700xt. The 6700xt from my understanding is between a 3060ti and a 3070. Meaning it sometimes trades blows with a 3070 and in other games might lose to a 3060ti. However it’s a fine card. Something to keep in mind also is that it has 12gb of vram vs the 3060ti and even 3070 only have 8gb. If it’s a card you are keeping a while that might be a consideration since the extra vram could help more as the card ages.

As far as the 6600xt, I’ve used one of those before and for 1080p today it’s great for that. Basically you are looking at 3060 level performance but nvidia in the case of the 3060 and 3060ti or 3070 is going to have better ray tracing than amd. Not that the amd cards won’t do it, but if you care about ray tracing, expect a 6700xt to ray trace about as well as a 3060 for example just due to being a higher tier card.

The 6650xt is basically a slightly overclocked 6600xt. If you see the 6750xt out there, basically it’s an overclocked 6700xt. They likely did this trying to get the 6650xt to compete with the 3060ti and the 6750xt with the 3070. If you get a good deal on one of those great but don’t overpay.

I’ve got no issues recommending a 6700xt. I’m on a 1440p display and it does mostly ok with that. So for 1080p it should last a while.

Hmm I see, that could be a reason but not for RGB because it doesn't have it. 🤔

I've been reading some bad stories about this dual fan gpu's getting hot as hell and loud which is bothering me.
I have a gigabyte gtx 970 g1 gaming 3 fans and it never passed 65c even with oc and super quiet I've never heard it. I have to crank the fan speed on msi to actually hear it.
So I'm kinda on the edge over these gpu's I've read they hit 100°c easily, wtf, that would make paranoid.

The problem is the cheapest 3 fan I can find I have to spend 100€ more which is a powercolor red devil but the 6750 xt.

How are the temps and noise on the msi ?
I've read it heats quite a lot.

My 2070 super only has 2 fans, I rarely hear them but then I don't play games a lot. I do know I could hear them the last time I played but it wasn't dramatic
My 980 before it only had 2 fans as well, and I rarely heard those fans (my last 2 GPU have been Asus)

On the 6700xt I don’t seem to have to many issues. I actually don’t monitor temps all the time unless I notice something off. The big thing is be sure you have good airflow. I’ve got a mesh front case with 3 intake fans and a rear exhaust fan. I also use a 240mm aio mounted on top of the case that exhausts air out the top.

My specs.

Ryzen 5900x
AsRock ab350 pro 4 motherboard
32gb gskill trident ddr4 3200 ram
Mai mech 6700xt
240gb Samsung evo 960 nvme drive
3 other various ssd drives
Corsair rmx 850 watt psu
Cooler master mb511 case

But basically if you’ve got a decent case with hood airflow it should be fine. Every once in a while I might hear the gpu but not a lot. For example I was playing ac odyssey last night on the ultra settings and it was pretty quiet. Handles about any game I throw at it including Arkham knights.

I guess the 6700 xt is the most balanced giving the price.
I can get the 6700 xt for 60€ more than the 6650 xt but it is a dual fan model, the powercolor fighter.

There is another issue the PSU. It is a seasonic m12ii Evo 620w 7 years old.
I've read very bad things about it recently, being group related and other issues.

Mine never gave any problems and doesn't make any noise maybe because it is the Evo edition, maybe fixed those issues I don't know.

Should I change the PSU ?

According to amd the minimum recommended is 650 watts. If you are unsure I’d suggest changing it. Not knowing prices there, I’m in the USA and have a Corsair rmx 850 watt unit. It may not be a bad idea to go for a 750 watt unit just to give extra headroom. But I definitely can recommend the Corsair rmx units. They seem well reviewed and I’ve had good luck with mine so far.
