Hello,
2008 Gateway FX 4710
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 @ 2.50GHz
6.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 332MHz
Gateway G33M05G1 (Socket 775)
512MB GeForce 9800 GT
Windows 7 ultimate
the video card is now obsolete thanks to new game requirements. I want another nVidia card, just not sure which one to purchase? I've heard great things about the gtx460's but wonder if the gtx 500 series are better?
If this was your system what graphics card would you buy?

Solution
Well, only if it is a real good psu you could try the 460. Reccomended is 450-500W. The 5xx series ( the good ones ) use even more.
Without changing psu you could try a HD6770.
Do you know how many amps there are on the +12V rail(s) ? You can see that on the side of the psu. ( you have to open your case )

I would assume since he has a 9800GT in it right now, that it must be at least 400W.

What games do you play and on what resolutions?

I found a Corsair TX750 on sale.. So that solves the power supply issue.. the old 400 watt one was only 16a on the 12v rail.
Power supply problem solved.. Power supply problem staying solved..
Now which Nvidia card would you recommend?

With that I would say the GTX560Ti. The GTX460 is a great card, but they are really hard to find, let alone at a good price. The 560Ti will play anything you like on whatever settings.

What monitor and resolution do you have, as well as the games you play?
