Upgrading GPU, would this work?

Will it work? Yes. Might be some CPU bottleneck holding your card back sometimes, tho. Buying used or new?

Probably going to be buying it new, are you sure there's the possibility of my CPU holding the card back, I was told by people that the CPU should work fine with most newer GPUs, thanks!

It will work fine. But it will also bottleneck the gfx card at peak demand in some games that are CPU-limited. No harm done, but just so you are aware that the card will perform better with a faster CPU.
