Upgrading Graphics Card in a Dell Desktop - Having a few issues!

I've recently decided to upgrade my Dell desktop computer that I bought off the shelf. I've bought a second hand GTX 460 and a new PSU. I'm not fussed about upgrading to the newest and best stuff, just wanted something cheap to upgrade from the terrible in-built graphics card.

However, when I connect up the GTX 460, my screen is blank, and goes into standby. The in-built card still works fine.

My friend says Dell are infamous for not being easily upgradable and suggests that buying a new motherboard may fix this, but I would rather not spend any more money. I've downloaded new drivers from nvidia but these didn't change anything. I also tried with an older video card which gave the same result (although this card hadn't been used in 5+ years so may be broken).

Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Here are my specs:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4460 CPU @ 3.20GHz
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 705
RAM: 8.0 GB
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (build 10586), 64-bit

I'm also struggling to find an option, having looked everywhere and for whatever name it could be. (Nothing about video or integrated at all)

I have a Dell Inspiron, not sure what number but will find out now

It's a Dell Inspiron 3847

I have a dell inspiron 560 and it was impossible for me to upgrade it i put a gtx 660ti (i didnt want to spend much) and bought a new power supply but it just didn't post so i took out the graphics card and it worked fine.
i don't want to be shown as a pessimist so hopefully you find out the solution also don't bother with dell customer support.

First of all, you should upgrade your bios - latest available is A08.
So what you do is:
Upgrade the bios
Go to device manager and check if your video card is present - it might be dead if it is second hand. If card is fine:
when the 460 is in, connect the monitor to on board output
go to bios and search for the option to select which output to use.
According to this video - it should work.

Have upgraded my BIOS but still no luck in finding any option.

I think maybe I wasn't clear earlier - I meant that there is a card that came with it, but it is not integrated - or at least I can take it out. This means I can't have both the original card and the new one in at the same time. Could this be why no option is appearing? Hoping that the new card isn't dead! The seller said in the ad that it was fully working.

There is only space for one so can't have two at a time!

Have tried both on their own, the GTX 460 doesn't give any display so can't access BIOS when that is plugged in, but the original card does, but there is no option for switching which card to use.

Just to make sure - the GTX 460 has a 6 or 8 pin power connector on it - have you connected the cable from PSU to it ?
If yes, than the card might be dead. you can try it in another computer to be sure, and than contact the seller.

It has 2x 6 pin connectors, have tried with both plugged in and just one, still nothing. I'll try find another PC to test it, if not will contact them. Thanks for all your help!
