Upgrading graphics card to HD5770, worth it?

Hey, I wanna' upgrade my Dell Vostro 410.

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE:2 weeks.
BUDGET RANGE: 100 - 175 euros

USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Gaming (games like The call of duty series, Fallout 3 and future games.)

CURRENT GPU AND POWER SUPPLY: Ati Radeon HD 3650 and some japanese 350watt power supply.

OTHER RELEVANT SYSTEM SPECS: CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4GHz
Mobo: DG33AO1 (Rev:A00)
Memory: 2 gb of DD2 SDRAM 800MHz

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: A belgian site www.alternate.be or www.forcom.be, think about just giving them my pc and they'll install it for me because I'll lose the warranty if I install them myself.

PARTS PREFERENCES: Nothing really, I'm going to have my PSU upgraded to an OCZ Stealthstream 600W.

I might want to add a gb of ram to my PC. Since I have Vista 32bit my pc won't recognize more than 3gb, right?

Yes, HD5770 is much better than HD3650 and good for high resolution monitor (23"-24").

i got the sapphire vapor x runs cool and quiet the 5770 is a nice card especially the Msi and sapphire vapor x model

I would suggest you upgrade your RAM to 4 Gb not to 3, because you will get better performance with just 2 or 4.

Thanks! I jizzed when I saw the pictures and vid. I always play on the lowest settings because I can't bare playing under 30FPS.
4gb, yeah, but I've heard somewhere that Vista 32bit only uses 3gb, so 4gb is useless, just read it somewhere, don't know if it's true

Yes, 32bit OS only read 3.2 GB, so you're good with 2GB RAM.

Yes, it should help, well, if you can afford it then go with 2x 2GB of RAM.
Video editing is more CPU intensive, you already have Core 2 Quad, OC it to 3GHz and you will have a FAST System...

They are about the same, the gtx260 is a little bit faster, but just by a few frames/sec, but consumes more power and does not have DX11.

OC'ing won't melt your PC..ha ha ha..it depends on components mostly, you should buy a CPu cooler that is better then the stock one so that you can avoid heating problems, if you want to overclock the CPu that is..

And no, buy another 2x1Gb not 1x2Gb.

You have RAM that's meant to be used in dual channel mode, witch optimizes it's performance, if you use 3 sticks there is no more dual channel mode and the performance drops.

You don't really have to overclock if you don't want to, but it will give you speed, higher frame rates and faster video editing. I do not know what motherboard you have and if you can overclock the CPU.

I feel like I shouldn't be messing around in my case, I'm afraid I'll screw something up. Installing a cooler doesn't sound like it's an easy thing.
I've seen some for around 10euro btw, should I go with them?

I'm on a tight budget and I wanna' buy a new graphics card for which I need a new power supply. A new monitor and then maybe a CPU cooler.

Let's say:
GPU: 175$
PSU: 60$
Monitor: 150$
CPU cooler: 50$

that makes around 435$. And buying more RAM is useless, right?
Oh, 435$ looks quite acceptable actually :')
But I hope my parents'll approve it, since this PC was 450$ 2 years ago. Anyways it's the money I earned working this summer, so.. I guess..

If it's the 1gb version then it's worth it. Just make sure you get a decent power supply with 2x6pin connectors.
600w should work fine and allow sli'ing later on.

Let's say I got a 22" monitor, and want to play on a 1920*1080 resolution.
I don't OC my CPU, leaving it at 2.4GHz.
I'd buy a GTX460 or an HD5770. Would I be bottlenecking my system? Would I see a performance gain or a performance loss comparing it to my HD3650 on 1024*768?
Someone in another thread said I won't be able to OC my CPU since I've got a Dell. ah heck.

A little OC on CPU = Great.

Well, it's okay if you can't OC your Dell, your CPU speed are still decent enough for today.
Just a little advice, next time BUIL your own PC.

a 5770 is more around 140$ now. not sure where your buying it from or if your outside of the U.S but i know on newegg you can get them for 140$. 175 is more of the price they started at.
