The 1060 is on the low side of minimum specs for vr. If you can stretch your budget, I'd recommend getting a 1070. You may also want to strongly consider upgrading your RAM.

Low specs and vr can lead to a bad experience. Motion sickness, etc.
I just looked up 1070 they are more than double the price for 1060 in the uk. Or maybe i am not looking in the right sight. Does the ram need upgrading because its ddr 3? Or is it the amount of ram? Thanks for the info.

The amount. A lot of newer games can take advantage of more than 8gb. Of course ddr4 is better, but then you're taking a full core upgrade.

You may get away with the 1060, on lower settings. Just be aware, most of your system is on the low side of minimum, so don't crank the settings and you should be ok. I don't know a lot about vr, but do know you want to have it be smooth to avoid issues.

Thanks a lot for explaining. I will upgrade the ram. I will have to stay with 1060 maybe i can buy another 1060 if it gives me too much motion sickness and sli them.

The GTX 1060 cannot do SLI. For VR, you're just gonna have to lower settings. I think this setup will last another 2-4 years.

Could you also tell me what retailers you use? I might be able to find a better deal.

So the issue is if you are looking at a 1660 I would recommend a rx580 8gb or 590 just because they have more vram and are around the same speed if not better. Remember this is all up to you to choose what you prefer and what is your best option. If I were u I would do a lot of online research and watch reviews of the cards especially from gamers Nexus if he has any on these cards. And do less of just listening to only a few people. I personally just got an RX 5700 but I did like 5 hours of research when they released yesterday.

I hadn't looked at rx cards. Budget wise i am getting oclus rift a ram upgrade and a graphics card. just didnt want to spend more than 200 on the gpu but i am gona squeze a few pounds. Thanks a lot for your help. Defenetly gona look at reviews.

Ok btw don't get the 5700 if you are already over budget. But I can garuntee you that you will be super happy with a 1660ti for vr. Enjoy man.

Quick edit: IDK if that cpu will bottleneck the GPU I would do some research here or online.

Another edit: yes unfortunately u can expect around a 15% fps loss from bottlenecks. So If u aren't doing the CPU upgrade then idk what you should do because that cpu can only run ddr3 as well so if u can see if u have another pic lying around with something around 6th gen or newer or see if a friend would want to trade or if they would sell a bit newer PC with no gpu for a good price other than that you would have to stick to 1660 non ti or worse I would say.

Thanks. Is the bottleneck happening cause my processor is old ?

If the 1660ti is within the budget, I'd still get it. The cpu may bottleneck it slightly, but it will still outperform the others mentioned. Then you can move it to a new system if you upgrade. I'm sure there's plenty of folks out the running higher end cards with that cpu still.
Nice. I am getting the 1660ti on the link. Going to currys to get my oculus this weekend cant wait. Thanks

The issue is the price then isn't worth it because it is too big of a performance decrease it would basically be the same as a 1660 so it's just not worth unless you will be changing cpu in the next year. Also because ur getting that gpu that I mentioned I would recommend ocing it because it has a stupid good cooler so it overclocks really well.

Another tgought if you haven't already, and you have a good cooler. Overclock the cpu. That 2600k will do 4.5ghz fairly easily. And that will definitely help alleviate some of the bottle neck.

I highly doubt you'll lose 15% performance, despite what online calculators will say. A 1660ti will still outperform a 1660 non ti. I'm sure if you look through member builds on here there are plenty of 1070/ti and 1080/ti builds with that exact cpu, and performing very well.

You can just get the 1660 Ti now, then when you can afford it, get a new processor. You'll still get great performance and in VR the bottlenecking should be small or nonexistent because VR maxes out the GPU. In regular games you should expect high settings and above 60 fps.

However, getting a newer CPU would also require a new motherboard, ram, CPU (of course), reinstallation of windows, and maybe even a new PSU. But you don't need that yet.
