I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card to something that can deal with the programs I'll be using. At the minute I have a standard windows graphics card. I'm studying media and graphics so I'll be using programs like After Effects and C4D.

My budget is 50 euro. Any suggestions?

50 euro ain't much 🙁 I used an NVIDIA GT 640 with AE for a while, since it has decent CUDA core count for not a lot of money, but really you want something way faster/more cores. RAM is also key for After Effects, how much do you have in your system?

I'd consider paying a bit more if I knew it would make a difference.

I only have 6gb DDR3 RAM at the moment. I was looking to upgrade to 8gb but I don't think that will make a massive difference. I have an Intel core i3-370m processor and I'm not sure if it'll will support more than 8gb. Otherwise I'd upgrade to 16gb.

More RAM definitely makes a significant difference in After Effects. Just wanted to double check, is this a desktop machine you're talking about? What edition is your OS and what motherboard are you running? Those things will help decide how much RAM you can run.

As far as the graphics card, the more you spend the more return you will get in terms of processing and rendering speeds, guaranteed (as long as you're buying nvidia).

No, I'm working off a laptop. It's a Packard Bell Easynote TK85. My OS is Windows 7 64 bit. I'm not sure where to find the motherboard information though.

Oh. I would not advise doing a laptop gpu upgrade yourself unless you're quite knowledgeable on laptop inner workings, and are ok risking the life of your laptop should something go wrong. You basically have to disassemble most of the laptop to do that kind of work. And if you were to pay a computer place to do it, it would be really expensive, I'm sure. At that point you're limited to upgrading the RAM. According to Crucial, that laptop will max out at 8GB. (http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=EasyNote%20TK85&Cat=RAM)

Any chance you'll be in the market for a computer upgrade?

I'd rather not risk it if that's the case. I'll just have to start looking at upgrading then.

Thanks for all the help
