Hello,

An offer came up to purchase a gtx 980 for 230$, and i was considering upgrading from my current gtx 760 to the gtx 980. I just have a few concerns,
1. Will it bottleneck an i5 3570k?
2. Will it work on a 600 watt power supply?
3. Will it fit in my case (it is 1 inch bigger than the 760, which is already a tight fit) (Cooler Master Elite 431 Plus)
4. is it worth the upgrade?

I mean, my 760 can run just about everything fine, but i heard the 980 was a monster and for 200 bucks it might just be worthwhile. It might also be more futureproof, as for example my 760 struggles to max out far cry 4 and a few other newer titles.

Thanks in advance!

1. I can't say for sure, but I'd lean toward yes with the specs on that CPU.

2. 600W should be enough, but that depends on what else is in your system. 500W is the minimum for that card (including the rest of a standard PC), so 600W gives you some room if you have a lot of peripherals.

3. If your 760 is a tight fit, then the 980 would be also, but without seeing your case in person, It'd be hard to say for sure whether it would fit or not. If you don't have an inch and a half spare room with the 760, then the 980 probably won't fit.

4. Looking at the specs, and knowing roughly how much of an improvement I got upgrading to my 980's from my 660Ti's, I would say that you would see a slight improvement, but nothing overly spectacular. It...

It may be worth it, but without knowing your system and what it's capable of, and what you're looking for and can afford, I can't say that for sure. Don't expect to max out Far Cry 4 on a single 980 with ease though, I can do it with 2 980's in SLI, but I don't think a single 980 will do it, especially with your CPU.

My advice would be to wait until you can upgrade your CPU as well as your graphics card, and then to go to a 980Ti. Depending on your cooling setup, you may want to look into overclocking your CPU if you can't upgrade it though. Frankly, a 3570k won't do a 980 justice IMO, and may be bottlenecking your 760 a bit too.
