Guys this GPU market is crazy right now and I was hoping to purchase a 5600 XT but they are going for almost $1,000? I am working on a new build and wanted an opinion on possible options that would be a greater performance kick compared to my 970? Maybe I should just use it for a year?

Ideally 1080P @120-144FPS or (1440P option)

ASUS ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING AM4 AMD B450 SATA 6Gb/s ATX AMD Motherboard
Ryzen 5 3600

Just blows my mind what $300-$400 dollar GPU are going for!

Any advice would be great!

Thanks,

Solution
I am not really worried about budget (don't need to get carried away however). I just want something that will last 3-5 years and allow me to game @ 120-144 FPS on 1080P (or 1440). I am limited by my current monitor (60hz), but I don't even know where to start on that path. But I just want something a novice builder can get all hooked up and not screw too much up!

Thanks for advice. B550 best option than? I will use the MSI link you provided! What power supply should I use on this? and good to go with ryzen 5 3600?

Double check this PCpicker: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gLm84d

Also, do I need to add fans to that tower? It only has 3 front mount fans? Any recommendations on this? specific fan options?

Wait for stocks and buy an RTX 3060 Ti. OC it. You'll have performance neck and neck with a 3070.

That board is fine but needs a BIOS update for Ryzen 3000 and doesn't have a flashback feature meaning you'll need a 1000 or 2000 cpu to update bios. MSI B450 "MAX" boards are 3000 ready out of the box

Wow, thanks for info. I was about to buy this board via another advisor on this forum. Can you tell me the best option board? In your opinion?

Here is what I already purchased to update my old PC, but decided to just build a new one.

Ryzen 5 3600
Crucial MX500 500 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory
Seagate Barracude Compute 2TB 3.5" 7200 RPM Hard Drive (not purchased yet, but in cart)

Can you recommend:
Motherboard
Powersupply
Tower?
Assuming any CD burner will be sufficient?

Appreciate the help. I get a lot of different approaches on here. I just want a solid mid-tear build. My PC is currently suffering the 100% Disk Usage for some random reason as of late.

Thanks Again,

SlyGuy

Disk usage shoudl be fine once you upgrade y your ssd/hdd.

For mobo I'd suggest the MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX.
For power supply, Corsair's RM650x (or RM650, x is better tho) because 3060 Ti is sitting at an odd 200W rating which is slightly too much to live with with a 550W PSU

Do you really need a CD burner? I'm not sure I know many towers with the option to have one. But I do know the Cooler Master NR600 is a great budget option with great airflow. Buy the ODD version it has a slot for CD drive
And pretty much any 16x DVD rw drive is enough imo, but again I don't know much about CD drives

Stay away from seagate:
https://www.amazon.com/Black-4TB-Pe...1-1-80ba0e26-a1cd-4e7b-87a0-a2ffae3a273c&th=1

Go with this mobo:
https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Performa...ds=amd+motherboard+am4&qid=1607230844&sr=8-11

I recommend this psu or go for the gold plus 80 version if you can afford it.
https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Bronze-...y&qid=1607230964&sprefix=evga+,aps,182&sr=8-5

Go with the blu-ray burner by LG:
https://www.newegg.com/lg-wh16ns40k... burner-_-27-136-306-_-Product&quicklink=true

Will let you figure out what case you want, this an example:
https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Airf...1&keywords=corsair+case&qid=1607231195&sr=8-2

Plenty of room to store your components correctly, tear down and rebuilding will be easy, unless you are horribly sloppy. :/

Instead of X470, just go for B550 it has PCIe4. I'd not buy X470 personally. Idk about that PSU because it doesn't show anything on mine just one gold psu :/

Used video card prices are crazy high right now. I'd wait for the new generation of video cards to start becoming more widely available. Prices will come down after that. The 970 isn't a horrible card to tide you over until then.

If he can swing 150+ dollars for it, OH sure, but the x470 would still be well worth it, especially on a extra tight christmas budget.

PS: this tower does not support a CD burner* - I decided to not get the CD Drive (I will use my old PC if necessary).

For the tower, lemme suggest the Lian Li Lancool II Mesh. Corsair is overrated and overpriced. After getting the L2Mesh you can get as many fans as you want, I'd say get the Lian Li ST120 for the back and top, or if you plan to use an AIO, top mount it, and then use fans under the GPU.

For the 220T, get the SP120 iCUE RGB by Corsair. Buy 3 and just fill up the slots. Keep the top ones pushed as far back as possible

The B550 seems the sweet spot to me as long as you only run one pcie 4 ssd. Because B550 only has 20 lanes and 16 are used by gpu and 4 per ssd

Sounds good. Thanks for help. Everything is ordered. Probably be a week or better to see anything show up.

Thanks Again,
