Hey,

I’m currently using a 2500 non-K.

Upgrading to a i7 2600K with P67 motherboard would cost me about 70$, is it worth it for gaming?

I definitely want to overclock it.

I’m currently using a H61 motherboard.

Arctic Freezer 7 Pro

8GB (4x2) 1333Mhz RAM

Asus GTX 970 Strix

250GB+120GB SSD

Seasonic S12II-430
Should I upgrade my PSU for overclocking a 2600K?

P67 motherboard does support overclocking. 2600k can be easily pushed to 4.5Ghz. For $70 for the combo, I'd do it because I play Battlefield V, and 8 threads makes a measurable difference over 4.

It's a good power supply - you should be fine.

P67 doesn't support overclocking.
For OC you'd need Z68 or Z77 board instead.
P67 is the only other 60 series chipset that supports CPU and memory overclocking and it has basically identical performance to the Z68. The only real difference between P67 and Z68, is that Z68 has iGPU support and Quick Sync. I think there was one or two more features over P67, but I don't remember what they were.

$70 is a decent price for a P67 motherboard and i7-2600K if you are upgrading from even older hardware, but that $70 would be better saved for a Ryzen 5 3600 upgrade. You won't have much of any performance increase from an i5-2500 to i7-2600K, even with overclocking. The only real advantage would be smoother performance in games that work better on more than 4 cores 4 threads.

Time in grade. If this upgraded pc is something you need to keep for the next year or 3, then yes, it's definitely worth the upgrade. As said it's going to help all around with OC and additional cores. Maybe not all that much help, but if you gain 10 fps, it's a help.

If it's a stop-gap to hold you over for less than a year, then no, not really. That's $70 towards a new motherboard, which can cost $70.
