Question upgrading i5 6400 to i7 7700k

hello i have an intel core 6400 and wanna upgrade to i7 7700K both i guess it will fit cus the chipset are the same? (using a lenovo pc) and i will send screenshot on CPU-Z with some info. (wasnt able to link)

i7 7700k has a lga1151 socket whereas 6400 has a lga 775.So you would have to change motherboard to use a i7 7700k.

the i5-6400 is the same socket...(775 went out in 2006 or so?)

The H170 MB will likely require at least a BIOS update to support 7th gen CPUs first

With the latest bios revision, H170 motherboards can support 7th generation CPUs. It is necessary to get the latest bios revision from the manufacturer of your motherboard or else the 7700k will not post.
Yes, the 6400 and 7700k use the same socket and the 7700k will slot in perfectly. LGA 775 was from like 2005 and was mainly used for later Pentium 4 and Core 2 systems. No core I3/I5/I7 CPUs used LGA 775 and your Skylake I5 CPU certainly doesn't use it.

i have a lenovo pc y710 15ish pc with i5 6400 and wanna upgrade to i7 6700K and i couldnt find the name on my cpu cooler but if you can find it if you search on 01EF258... but is that cooler good enough? and if i need a cpu cooler it has to be liker 10 centimeters height

If you are concerned about cooler you could just buy an I7 7700 which comes with a stock cooler. You cannot overclock the 7700 but you likely couldn't overclock a 7700k with the stock motherboard anyhow.

You can find your serial number, likely on the rear of the pc, you can put it into Lenovo's site and download the latest bios.
It looks like this may be unnecessary since your bios revision is from 12/25/2017 and the 7700k can out in early 2017, but i still would download the latest revision.

okey i did it , i checked in with cmd now it says i have that bios version. so no i can put in an i7 7700k/7700? (only need to check if cpu cooler fits)

You should be able to. The 7700k is faster, however, the 7700 may be a better option since it comes with an adequate stock cooler and neither 7700 or 7700k can overclock in that motherboard.

I would suggest that that could cool an i7 7700k. You could test it and get a better cooler if it doesn't run cool. Noctua and cryorig have great low profile coolers.

thank you for the help, if its not enough and i have to buy a cooler does it matter if its a cooler that aims straight up or does it have to be like the one i have angled 90 degrees?
