Upgrading i7 3930k to either Ryzen 7 2700x or i7 8700k.

Hello everyone,

I finally got the ability to upgrade my system CPU and was wondering which way should I go.
My concern is primarily pricing difference. With both upgrades I would need to get new MB and ram.
What I have left with is CoolerMaster G650M power supply, which I hope would suffice, and reference design 1080. 4 case fans and no RGB.

Primary use would be gaming, however overall PC performance is more important and maybe some PC streaming. At the moment I have 1080p 120hz monitor that I want to upgrade to 1440p.

What do you recommend?

That is a big difference in pricing. Reasoning regarding AM4 socket makes sense as well if you choose to upgrade the CPU down the road and keep the board and RAM. I'm currently running both CPUs on systems I have, and can vouch for either being a great choice. It's just that right at this moment, the 8700k is better at gaming, but it seems likely that the next generation 3000 series Ryzen for desktop will level the playing field.
Either would serve you well for your needs. That said with gaming being primary use(especially at 1080P currently) and occasional streaming, I'd choose the 8700k path between the choices for max FPS. If you wanted to consider a CPU upgrade in a year or 2, this could change things though option wise.

Upon further investigation Ryzen is 10000 Rub (Russian currency) cheaper then 8700k,(23k vs 33k) its 145$ difference. Considering that next Ryzen cpu would be compatible with the same socket, I think I would go with the reds.

Ryzen 3rd generation won't come out until summer. I don't know if I can wait ahhhhh!! The opportunity might slip away. I can't imagine the new one would cost 145$ more then 2700x, and even if it will, selling 2700x and getting 3700x for the price of 8700k seems reasonable. Besides when I do game, I usually have several tabs on Chrome open, with Twitch.tv that I alt+tab constantly, does take its' toll on the system.

I would've loved to use the AIO, but I got my case with 3930k and it doesn't have the room for 240mm radiator, which is also an issue, come to think of it. Would any new boards even fit? pfft
