Hi there,

I've been thinking about upgrading for a while as I've noticed some performance issues in CPU bound games.

My current specification below:

Asus X99-A - Motherboard
16GB - RAM
i7-5820K OC to 4.2GHz
GTX 2080 Super GFX
RMI 750 Watt PSU

I'm looking to potentially buy a bundle from somewhere like Scan computers to upgrade my board, ram and cpu as I still think the 2080 super is relevant for my needs. I plan to build / purchase a brand new pre-built machine in two years time.

I was hoping to continue using my RMI 750 Watt PSU, existing case, fans and SSD / HDD and GFX card.

Was looking at the 13900k, but seems quite power hungry and I would probably need to buy a new PSU for this plus it seems fairly overkill. I mainly will be using the machine for development and gaming.

Most places I've read say the 13600k would be a good upgrade and less power hungry than the 13900k.

Would my existing PSU be enough for the 13600k + existing hardware?

Thanks in advance.

Something like this should be fine. How old is the PSU? You might want to get another one regardless depending on you level of risk taking.

Apologies yes, sorry board wise I would probably go for: ASUS PROART Z790-CREATOR WIFI or
ASUS ROG STRIX Z790-F GAMING WIFI or ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO - mainly because those the only Z790 boards available in the bundle being offered. There are Z690 boards that can be selected, but thought it made more sense to go with a Z790 board, even though raptor cpus are compatible with Z690 boards.

The PSU is technically just over 7 years old as I purchased it along with the other components (except the 2080 super) in October 2015.

I would say that with development work pushing the CPU moderately and the GPU maximally, you should get a new PSU. What is the warranty period on it? I would say that if its past the warranty it would be prudent to replace it. I only gave that build as a template. I assume you are in the UK or EU?
