I'm getting ready to build a new computer next week and wanted to start completely fresh and not have my new computer burdened by 10+ years of random software. I'm putting a new 990 PRO and wanted to see if I can use Windows from my old computer or would I be required to buy a new license anyways? Would it be easier to just buy a new license as I need both computers operational for at least a few months. Old computer has windows 10 as well.

Did you purchase an OEM key for your prior build? If so, then it's tied to the BIOS chip on the motherboard, meaning you'll need a new license key for the new motherboard. If you don't tinker under the hood and don't want to customize your OS's visual experience, then you don't even need to activate the OS.

Where did the old license come from?

You cannot use the install, but you may be able to use the Win 10 license, in a new Win 11 install.
