Question Upgrading intel i5 to i7... BSOD at boot... IRQL not less or equal

I have tried upgrading the CPU of an old machine I have that was running an i5 4690k to an extra i7 4790k I had laying around.
At boot I have a BSOD and the error is IRQL not less or equal


Mobo: gigabyte Z97X-UD3H-BK-CF (bios updated to F8)

I would try clearing the cmos and see what happens.
