upgrading laptop display to 120HZ

I have an Alienware r4 17 in laptop with 6700Hq, a 1070, and a 60 Hz ips display. i found a 120Hz display for the same type laptop. i was curious if i could buy it and take out the 60Hz display panel and install the 1440p 120Hz display and what says i can actually do that. here is the link from newegg of the display https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIADG45HV4986&ignorebbr=1

That should be impossible - the motherboards differ between gsync and standard displays on those laptops.

Ive done it succesfully, however it doesnt have gsync. but it does run at 120 Hz and its the best thing ever. you dont really notice it going from a lifelong journey of 60fps max to 120 hz. but after using a 120Hz for awhile i went 60 Hz on an ultrawide and i felt like i was playing slideshow at a constant 60FPS. a different cable is needed than the one that comes with the 60 hz one though
